Oh,Nelly

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNbLcLlnNc0

I absolutely love Nelly Furtado. Her lyrics are thoughtful and smart and her voice is needed in the current music climate . I was really excited to hear her new music, and I like the snippet of the chorus that I heard a couple of weeks ago. However, now that I've heard the song , I'm so disappointed , Nelly what is this ? I'm all about artist growth but where did your personality go ? This sounds like it could be a Rhianna record. Rhianna is a hyped record label created person, who depends on her wild actions, fashion, and hair to keep her in the press. Her songs are big but she's doesn't write them or sing them people shit on ke$ha for sing talking but there both  doing the same thing. I prefer Ke$ha by the way.  Her songs are big pop hits, but they wont stand the test of time there just shitty, catchy songs. She's not a artist.  Nelly Furtado is. I understand it's been a while since she's had a big radio hit but honestly, don't sell your soul especially if the song sucks.

Life's funny Moments

Mom:Who's Florence and the Machine?
Me :  Not to sound sacrilegious are anything but ,If Jesus was a women and a musician , she'd be her.

I've always said I need a tv show. My bff and I have been cooking up this idea since we were eight.

A list of words I hate :

- Urban -literally makes my skin crawl, I think it's rather racist when used to talk about a group of people

-Craft, crafty, arts and crafts - disrespectful

-Spicy - I hate when it's used when talking about Latin/Hispanic/Brown people. Rude and offensive.

-Creative- If you aren't an artist you shouldn't used this world . It's out of context.
As of 4.9.12 this is all for now. I'm sure more will be added.

Fill in the bubble

I don't like the term "Latino", as a "Latina" I don't understand the term . I don't speak Latin I speak Spanish. I don't understand what Hispanic means either. The greaser is a thick mustached , greasy oily looking bandit . Who was also in trouble I bet the character had a pancho or something of stereotypical nature.
the tempest, sexy, Latin lover...
ugh every movie and music video has them. Which has just increased the stereotype of what Spanish people are too look like. With there perfect faces beautiful eyes and lips ,muscular sexy body tan but not to dark! women have the long wavy hair and the men have short cropped wavy locks. They don't speak English very well, everyone is in love with them . There also suckers for love. The love interest is usually white and they are enthralled by there latino lover they've never been with anyone like them before and want no other type of deal. This emerged 1910-190's. With actors like Beatriz Michelena and Myrtle Gonzalez, Rudolphn Valentino, Ramon Novarro. Most of those actors could probably pass of white though. They assimilated well so that they could play either roles. The good neigh boor polciy was a fedreal plan to give recognition an such to U.S ties with Latin America( so that they could get oil and have military bases). This started latino historical films to be made.

Re-Learning

As an artist the world around us inspires us and in order to create work we have to research topics to fully understand in order to make the work meaning full. And not just will this is what I think and feel about what happened its more powerful if it’s based on the story or thru the work if thru the work if the artist can highlight an unknown fact. Or an unknown part of history, and by that I mean events that aren’t taught in schools or aren’t in textbooks.
I think it’s a beautiful thing when people come together and have conversations about art. And when it comes to working together the flow of ideas can cause inspiration for other people in the group of change there thought processes. Prior to this class, I’ve never worked with a group of people on a project, It’s hard to hard with other people and deal with personalities and get the project started and be able to focus on a project and have everyone be ok with it is difficult to do.
Working on a project for years for me makes me procrastinate and feel like maybe I shouldn’t finish the project because since it’s not done at this point. However it does make me think of what exactly I want to say with this project, why I am doing the project, and why did I choose to start the project and use the materials I did. So the thought process is more developed than just getting to work on the project and finishing it. I also find my self-fixing things on projects after the fact. I do that either because I wanted to do it this way but couldn’t do to the rules of the assignment or I think will be better the new way.
I’ve always been drawn to decorative arts, and thru my years of classes I’ve learned about work being “kitschy” and find my self-evaluating the work. Maybe I do that because I’m trying not to like it, I’m not really sure. But there’s a way to design decorative without it being not fine art based. Because everything is a learning process which can make it into a area of fine art that’s not taught in art schools, like how Judy found porcelain painting after she had graduated form college with her background in fine art she had to learn a new way of art that in a way isn’t know or respected as art or fine art.
I love the concept of D.I.Y, I learned about it a couple of years ago but I’m not really familiar with artists or collectives which why I chose to take this class. I believe that art is moving towards this type of practice. Artist just need to get out there, outside the classroom, outside the museum or gallery and have their work is experienced. Our culture is very internet based, I feel like what I do I should post it online for the work to be able to reach a wide audience and try to get my name out there anyway I can, because more than ever the art worlds more competitive and with the economic crisis. It forces artist to bind together or work alone and work and go back to create art that they like not for a specific show or commission.

A letter to Kanye West

Mr. West posted this on his facebook, some might question the validity of this letter questions may arise if it’s really a letter that he received or not. But I think that it is, I think that Kanye is an honest, funny and good guy deep down. I am forever a fan, his genius. Despite his image and things he has said and says. I think his truthful and funny . I think that I understand him a little bit more because we are both artistic, we don’t give a shit, and we are only children. If you think that’s weird then… I don’t care .
