This "phone" is located in UWM-Peck School Of The Arts, outside of the metal smith lab. Where fires and other dangerous situations can happen. I guess they are assuming that people will use their cell phones but nonetheless.
Also when they redid the walls in the Peck School of the Arts, one of the materials that they used is flammable. They recommended that only about 10 - 20 % of the walls have art on them because of this.
Every single art practice , is hazardous to the artist and to the building . Yes there's rules and regulations that we all follow and safety precautions that we are beat over the head with. There's also vents, although they are very problematic vents, to take away the toxic fumes. There's no real sense of danger in the building on a daily basis. Aside from the fact that it's made with flammable walls and contains lots of flammable materials.... it's become my second home .
I say all this to say really flammable walls? Do you want the students to die?
The location of this piece (I am calling it piece because I consider it a piece of art.) was in front of University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee 's Mitchell Hall. I don’t know who or whom created it, I wish I did. In front of Mitchell Hall is where a lot of smokers smoke their cigarettes. There are always countless amounts of cigarette buds around the entrance of the building. One day, I noticed this and laughed, it's pure genius. I also thought " Eww,I hope they washed there hands or used gloves before they touched those." I don’t know what was used to make the cigarettes stay but it did last a long time, (about a week ) and then when it was gone the imprint of the wording stayed for a bit longer.
I am really saddened by the large amount of students that smoke. It's like there shortening their life . Also, as a non-smoker and an asthmatic is its annoying.
